AML compliance software for UK law firms: buyer guide 2026.
The AML compliance software market for UK law firms is dominated by electronic ID tools — but the SRA's enforcement data shows that 90% of non-compliant firms already used ID tools. The gap is in the reasoning and documentation layer above the data. This guide explains what to look for in 2026.
The market in 2026: what exists and for whom
Electronic ID and verification tools (Thirdfort, Amiqus, ComplyAdvantage, SmartSearch) are now commodity infrastructure for AML-obligated law firms. They address the identification and verification step. They do not draft CMRAs, do not monitor for ongoing monitoring triggers, do not assemble evidence packs, and do not calculate a firm compliance score. This is the documentation gap the SRA's inspection programme consistently finds.
At the enterprise end, OneAdvanced's File-Quality and Matter-Quality agents provide AI-assisted compliance reasoning — but only for firms on OneAdvanced's own PMS, and priced for mid-to-large firms. Firms on Clio, LEAP, Actionstep, or Osprey cannot access OneAdvanced's compliance layer. This is the documentation and reasoning gap we are building for.
What to look for in an AML AI vendor
The five questions to ask any AML AI vendor before signing: (1) Does the AI draft outputs that a human MLRO or COLP must review and sign, or does it auto-complete compliance records? Only the former is consistent with SRA guidance. (2) Where is the data processed and where is it stored? UK data residency reduces your GDPR risk profile. (3) Does the vendor provide a DPA, and does it cover their full sub-processor chain? No DPA means no processing — this is a legal requirement. (4) Is the product PMS-agnostic, or does it require you to switch PMS? PMS lock-in is a significant switching cost. (5) Does the vendor have a clear position on the regulated line — i.e., where AI stops and human judgment starts?
